The Crown's Dog: Oh My Bleeding Heart!

Title: The Crown's Dog
Author: Elise Kova
Published: 22nd November 2016
My Rating: 5/5
Recommend: Yes

The first in an Air Awakens prequel trilogy.

A coastal summer is turned upside down by a violent murder, and a quest for lost pirate treasure turns into a hunt for the killer.

Jax Wendyll is the crown’s dog. As punishment for the unspeakable crimes that tourment him to this day, his life has been conscripted to the Empire Solaris. However, in an Empire afflicted by peace, his duties are relegated to unquestioningly aiding the antics of the youngest prince, Baldair.

Erion Le’Dan, a nobleman’s son, expects a quiet summer visit to the Imperial Palace, his only agenda to visit with his unlikely friends. But Jax’s discovery the legendary pirate Adela Lagmir’s old workroom inspires a hunt for her long lost treasure.

The pursuit of Adela’s truth takes the three men to the Imperial summer manor, built along the old pirate mainstays. When Adela’s trident is branded into a murdered servant, Prince Baldair’s summer amusement of treasure-hunting becomes a hunt to find the killer. But, as mysteries compound, the ghosts of Jax’s past may not be the only things haunting them.

OMG!!! Could this series get any better?

First I felt like I was tortured from hell and back, next I felt my heart being ripped apart and then shredded in to a million pieces, I couldn't stand the pain. I didn't think it was possible for me to feel anymore pain, nope. But I did. How Elise manages to do this even in a novella is beyond my comprehension. I feel for anyone who is experiencing my pain right now *air hugs you* one million times.

ANYYYWAYYYSSS....time to get down to business

This one was very heard to read because of Jax Wendyll, if you have read the Air Awaken series you will understand the reference to "The Crown's Dog". Jax and Aldrik are more alike, both haunted by their pasts and they both put on a act of being tough. Jax with his smiles and Aldrik with his silence.

I really loved that I got a glimpse inside of Jax, Erion and Baldair's head, it was nice to see how all three of them are different yet strange enough they form a unbreakable bond and trio. I loved seeing how they cared about one another, especially Erion which I was quite surprise about. Baldair was full of surprises too (he was the most painful one to read about).

Jax, Baldair and Erion set off on a journey to discover about the legendary pirate Adela, since all of this stems from Jax escorting one of Baldair's ladies out of the Imperial palace without being noticed, they soon stumble upon the tapestry in one of the rooms in the Tower. It was so good to be reunited with Aldrik, I kind of wish Vhalla was there too but these events happened before they met.

It was very surprising learning about Adela and her so called treasure, although that woman who helps Jax, I would have liked to know her name and what connection these two had (it's given the impression that Jax knows her but he can't remember who she is).

I've always loved Elise's writing style, no one can quite compare to her not in the way she writes anyway. Every word, every sentence is poured with emotions. Although this is short novella, I can't wait for the next book.

I am off to order the book, if you haven't started this series yet now is the perfect chance to do so.

3 Mistakes I Made Being A Newbie Blogger

I have been in the blogging world just over a year now, although I did not anticipate the ups and downs (how silly of me), I have learned a few things along the way.

1. Never pressurise yourself

I am guilty of this constantly, I tend to put pressure on myself for no reason. Because I am thinker, my brain gets the better of me sometimes and pushes me a bit too far, when I see other bloggers or reviewers reading much more than I have, it makes me feel guilty like I have started this commitment so I should stick with it, I knew what I was getting into when I started this blog. But I FORGET that I can't compare other people's journey and struggles with my own, everyone has their own adventure and destiny. I am slowly telling myself repetitively to go at my own pace.

2. Overdoing It

This again falls in with my previous comment, I tend to overdo it when I put pressure on myself too much like trying to read as much as I can in one day. I have to stop and ask myself who am I in competition with and what am I trying to show. Sometimes you lose the purpose of why you started this in the first place which lead me to the biggest slump of my life, I ended up taking a long break over the summer (I am hoping that was last of the slump for the time being, I don't want it knocking on my door step any time soon)

3. Grateful

Being fortunate enough that I have the opportunity to read, so many people don't have that and as humans we tend to forget that sometime and take it for granted (kind of like education). But I am slowly training my mind to think of positive instead of jumping to negative conclusions sometimes. And thankful for all of the wonderful books, I would be LOST without them! πŸ™

So these are my main three lessons I have learned so far, there were other lessons I learned too but they fall in to these categories.

What are some of the lessons you have learned since blogging/reviewing? Do you tend to put pressure on yourself for no reason at all? Let me know in the comments below, I am looking forward to reading your comments.

The Mine

Title: The Mine
Author: John A. Heldt
Published: 6th December 2013
My Rating: 3/5
Recommend: Yes

In May 2000, Joel Smith is a cocky, adventurous young man who sees the world as his playground. But when the college senior, days from graduation, enters an abandoned Montana mine, he discovers the price of reckless curiosity. He emerges in May 1941 with a cell phone he can't use, money he can't spend, and little but his wits to guide his way. Stuck in the age of swing dancing and a peacetime draft, Joel begins a new life as the nation drifts toward war. With the help of his 21-year-old trailblazing grandmother and her friends, he finds his place in a world he knew only from movies and books. But when an opportunity comes to return to the present, Joel must decide whether to leave his new love in the past or choose a course that will alter their lives forever. THE MINE follows a humbled man through a critical time in history as he adjusts to new surroundings and wrestles with the knowledge of things to come.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review

Joel Smith- an, optimistic who likes to look at the bright side of things, never to dwell on matters very long, Joel is an adventurer who likes to explore life and every journey that comes with each day.

This book is set in two different times, 1941 and 2001. Joel (I keep thinking Joe in my brain for some reason) loves geology, his second love. His fascination with rocks leads him to go back in time and live a whole new life (without technology I can't imagine how I would cope). But in some sense, I wish I could back in my parents time where life wasn't taken over by technology, it didn't have much use back then. Back then, life was so simple, people communicated with each other face to face, saw their family regularly, made time for friends. That's what life is about. As this book evidently displays between the two era's, Joel falls in love with Grace, which is great but the only issue is she is already in a relationship with someone (not to mention engaged!).

Grace is shy, reserved but loyal friend. She has a difficult upbringing and I really sympathise with her loss but I have an issue with trying or attempting to start a relationship with Joel when she is already engaged with Paul. It's not as if she doesn't have alarm bells ringing in her head or being warned by her friends to be careful. As a result of this, when the truth does finally come out and she breaks up with Paul but also loses a friend. I am so not okay with this. Yes they both deserve someone special but she didn't need to sneak off and do stuff with Joel. And Joel? He was aware of everything yet he still acted foolish in my opinion.

I also have a little issue with the ending, I love happy endings but I am not so sure with this one after Joel returns back to his own time. How is it possible that Grace follows him in to the future without ageing one bit?

Oh I forgot! You know who absolutely stole my heart? Of course you don't know silly me. Ginny and Tom, they were absolutely adorable I loved them to bits. Both of them intelligent, beautiful, opposite, supportive and totally in love. It is a shame though that Tom had to die, I enjoyed his friendship with Joel. I can't freaking believe Ginny is Joel's grandmother! Can you believe it? I know I know!

Held does explore racial discrimination that was inflicted upon Japanese as a result of the war, it also touches upon important topics in keeping faith in humanity through turbulent times. I have to him extra brownie points for that, it really was a important matter to talk about.

Have you ever read books where the characters actions are just increasingly frustrating? It gets on my nerves even when I try to ignore it or stomp on it, how do you cope with it?. Tell me in the comments below

Movie Revew: Civil War

Movie Details:
Title: Captain America
Release Date: 6th May 2016
Cast: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Bozeman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, Daniel BrΓΌhl
Rating: 4/5

(AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I should be relaxing, after spending hours on these posts somehow I end up deleting the posts and I actually can't remember what I wrote. Of course I can't, it is one of those rare moments where I was on fire yesterday! I am so sad!!!! πŸ˜“πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜)

Downey and Evans put on a stellar performance, combating with one another. Two sides of the same coin, both avengers fighting to do the right thing. You can tell how much they convey with nothing but just their expressions and body language.

This movie is insanely epic, I loved every moment of it. Captain America and Stark get in to a dilemma, both striving to do justice with humanity. This film highlights those deaths that usually go unnoticed, but this time the avengers make it the main plot of the film. Stark wants to have a system put in place with authority figures, this way then can ensure they don't end up killing anyone's life with them trying to save the world (they can't guarantee that but its them trying to responsible instead of reckless). Cap has a problem with that, he doesn't believe in the Government, nor does he want to be controlled by them. He doesn't want them making decisions for them and telling them what to do (in a sense he is right, what if their is an attack and they stop them from acting so quickly?).

From the last two movies I have been watching Evans and what a truly tremendous actor he is and I fell in love with him in this movie, he is an exceptional actor. I couldn't decide which side I wanted to be on. On one hand, Stark is right because of their actions (even if it is trying to save the world) people are killed and there is no consideration, no remorse from anyone. Whereas, Cap is right, if they hand over that power to the authority (Government), you can't really trust them as their intentions are not revealed. But I would have to say Iron Man has always been my favourite, and although I love both of them Stark has my heart, therefore I am on his side. Sorry Cap. #teamironman #noregrets

The latest cinematic release from Marvel tells the tale of every dreamer who breathes and lives the superhero universe (like me). It has everything in it, drama, suspense, action (a lot of action if you go by the trailers), a little touch of romance and a promise of more to come (this is where you internally scream 'NO' and weep at the cliffhangers because believe me when I say the suspense left you hanging for more).

I do have to mention that I probably should have watched  Captain America: The Winter' Soldier since it has many references to it and I mean many (I think the baddie is from there too?).

The stakes are high in this film, with all this drama and non stop action, tbut I think what Cap and Stark need to both is comprise as they are both right.  The drama and tension the scenes leaves you with slowly strips you away as each hour passes by leaving you feeling despair and full of anticipation (I can confirm this happened to me which left my friend annoyed since I could not contain my apprehension).

I did have one problem with the movie though which kind of got under my skin was the fact how Bettany's character who is supposed to be this powerful, intelligent android does nothing throughout the movie. He is baffled by the fact that Wanda defies and attacks him to join Caps team when he is trying to protect her by keeping her on house arrest. Whilst at least she fights him when they are battling one another, he just flies in the air and dodges her attacks like WHAT? C'mon mate your more powerful than that, I am expecting more from him in the next movie. And how is it that most of Stark's team leave him? How does that make the fight equal? Black Widow's betrays him and joins Caps team halfway through the movie, the only ones fighting is Black Panther, Spidey and Rhodey. I did love two characters in this movie, Boseman and BrΓΌhl who's acting skills were phenomenal. I love how each characters were involved with the main plot but also had they own stories woven in to the plot. Baseman did a great job as a secondary character, you could clearly see he is going to have his own movie someday as well as have a bigger role in the next movie. My favourite acting skills in the whole movie was Zemo (yes I know he is a baddie, but he is baddie of the year in my opinion), he did such a stupendous job throughout the movie that I fell in love with this acting, there is also the fact that whatever he had plotted was happening. He was trying to create a rift between Stark and Cap and I can successfully confirm it did. Also, thanks to him he reveals a unknown secret that Cap was hiding about Bucky regarding Starks parents, I was like ---->😨😱😱😱😱. It was also unfair how Bucky and Cap were both fighting Stark in the epic fighting scene, what happened to a fair fight? Although stark should have ended it, unfortunately it is Cap who ends it.

There is this rumour going around that Cap will die in the next movie or at least it will be his last one. I don't want Marvel to stop casting Evans, he is a incredible actor and the avengers team just won't be the same without him. I know other fans also share the same sentiment, I have loved the avengers movies because of Evans and Downey and now I hear they might kill him off or he might throw in the towel? NO! All those other times they always make the endings different from the books, the one time I want them to do this they do the opposite. I am not sure if I would continue watching the movies.

Phew! I finally finished πŸ˜…

Have you watched any of Marvel's movies? What did you think of it? Who is your fav superhero? Let me know in the comments below

4 Reasons Why You Need The Ultimate Blog Planner

YES!! It's finally here!!! Can you believe it??? Ever since I started blogging (which was in  May 2015, if you don't forget about the post I did back in 2012 and I completely forgot this blog existed! Oops! Let's just keep that between me and you? Yes, perfect!πŸ™ˆπŸ™Š)

OHMYWORD!! This was so beautifully wrapped that I did not even want to remove it from its packaging! And then the most terrible thing happened, I was compelled by the urge, YES BY THE URGE  to take a picture and frame it. SO THEN WHAT HAPPENED? I HAD TO TAKE IT OUT OF THE BUBBLE ( I personally always loved the bubble, as a kid when I had nothing better to do and any packages had come that day I used to spend hours playing with it #sadtimes I know).  Shall we just cry together? 😭😭😭. Here are 4 reasons why you should by this immediately.

1. The cover is beautiful

(Please Note, this picture is edited to bring out the colours of the planner so
it is a little lighter when you actually buy the product)

Do I need to say more? The peach with the gold? What a perfect combination and what I loved most about it all is the simplicity. Yeah fair enough there are so many planner's out there that bloggers are using and are currently loving (like the Erin Condren planner), but I was looking for one simply for blogging and the ones I have seen so far were not really up my ally, but I feel like I finally found my true love 😍.

2. The Price

This is probably the top factor in what made me buy this product, although I do love the Erin Condren planner's unfortunately it is a little pricey. If I lived in the USA then maybe I wouldn't care so much but I wanted to use it for blogging mainly, jot down ideas, plan etc I didn't think it was worth the investment. So I am very happy about this purchase and I cannot thank the people at Dot Creates enough! πŸ’πŸ’ž  (the price for this planner is £12.50 in case your wondering).

3. The Inside Pages

On the left hand side is a sponsored content page for those bloggers who use sponsored product in their video's or blog (although it has no use to me, still a good thing for future references, just realised I could use this for any books I ordered or ARC's, 1 point for my brain-maybe there is hope for you after all πŸ˜†-I was talking about my brain I will just delete this stuff ). On the right hand side, is most likely what I will be using until it cannot be used anymore. I love that I can actually write down a structure or maybe some points I want to highlight in a blog post and then it has 3 little check boxes (words, links and photos). Coming back to it when you have actually published the post you can mark it off on the planner and then have a nice cup of tea and relax.

3. Inspirational Messages

First page after the main cover

One of the messages inside the book

I see a lot of these type of handwritten messages on Twitter, FB and Pinterest. It's so inspiring, I wish I could do them myself but since I can't I loved the fact there in the planner after so many pages (I think it was after every 15/16 pages) to remind me to keep going, its like an extra boost to work hard and to do better.

4. Stats

I love this, just before the inspiration message page, you will have this at the bottom. This will help me a lot as sometimes (by that I mean 90% of the time) I actually forget to look at my stats and see if my blog has grown, if anyone is liking the content and so on. So for people like me it is a perfect reminder!

That's all folks!

(anyone here watch Looney Tunes? I used to love watching that as a child, Bugs Bunny is my fav  πŸ’–)

What do you think? Did you fall in love with this like the way I did? What are some of the features you look for in a planner? Let me know in the comments below!
