Title:Snow Like Ashes
Author: Sara Raasch

My Rating: 5/5
Recommend:Yes
Synopsis:
A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.
Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own
Oh gosh, this book!
This book is definitely a rollercoaster ride if you like those kind of books. It will pull you in to the depths of the story, until you feel you can't go no more, can't breath properly like there is no air, so close that there is not space that you cannot differentiate who's who. WOW. I know right? I felt like that too, and my emotions are still high on alcohol like I am drunk lol.
Meira is very alluring character, she is a perfect equilibrium, calm, balanced. I love how she is balanced between feeling the pain of her people, wanting and having the desire to help people as well as being strong and brave when she needs to be. She is truly a remarkable character and one of my faves in the book! But not one without flaws, what makes me love her so much is the need to be better and alleviate everyone's pain. It is quite sad how in the beginning she is told that she is an orphan who craves the need to be accepted, mainly from Sir who she looks up to (he brings her up)
Mather, is supposed to be king. Or so he is told. Only to find out that he is not, all the worrying, the stress, the fears, wanting magic, the need and desire to change his people's situation only to result it being thrown out the window of the lie he is told and is constantly reminded up. Although, I did not like this part very much, since Meira has feelings for him and vice versa since they are consistently reminded how they are cannot be together because he is royalty and she is an orphan. That all changes when she realises who she is, which is towards the.....nope not telling you. You will have to read the book to know when she does find out! ;) Trust me you won't regret it! But I also see why the author made this or needed this to happen.
Prince Theron. Now he is someone who I can talk about forever. He is sooooooo hot in the book. His accepting nature, kind, gentle, compassionate yet brave, calm, courageous in the face of danger. What I love most about him was his compassion, how he wants to genuinely want to know about everyone; their wellbeing, interests, name, what they do etc. Meira is also attracted by this quality too something she longs for and doesn't get until she meets Theron, I find it quite amusing in which circumstances they both meet in! So adorable!
Albeit, I cannot say the same about his father, Noam :(
I loved the plot of this book, very hard to continue with because of the enormity that the Winterians face. But nevertheless, a very intruiging plot with a very vivid concept. It's so hard to find a good concept these days, so I fell in love with this one quite easily! :)
Prince Theron and Queen Meira. What a hot and awesome couple *sighs happily*
P.S. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cover. Cannot emphasise that enough!!! :D
