The Rules of Persuasion

Title: The Rules of Persuasion
Author: Amity Hope
Published: 14th August 2017
My Rating: 5/5
Recommend: YES
Synopsis:

1) Take things slow (her rule)
2) Make it believable (his rule)

After tragedy hit her family, Meg Matthews officially crossed the line from “good girl” to “bad girl.” Motorcycle? Check. Graffiti? Check. The only thing Meg hadn’t planned on was blackmail. Too bad now a certain infuriating boy holds Meg’s future in his hands…

When Luke Prescott—star pitcher and town golden boy—catches Meg vandalizing the school, she’s given two choices: face the consequences or enter into a fake relationship with him to get his parents and his ex off his back.

But as Meg and Luke grow closer, they both realize they’ve been keeping secrets from each other. Their fake relationship might be doomed from the start—if they can’t learn to open up to the one person they never thought they’d trust.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains late-night graffiti sessions, flirty baseball lessons, and a never-ending list of relationship rules just made to be broken.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review,

GUYS I really loved this book! Meg and Luke are such couple goals they are so awesome. I really do love books from Entangled they have such awesome variety of contemporary romances they never fail to disappoint.

Luke the golden boy and star pitcher has everything or so it would seem, in reality he has a father who tells him what to do. Luke finds it hard to tell his father he has no desire in joining the business but he wants to be a pitcher instead. I really enjoyed him finally standing up to his father. Also he is super hot, do you want to be my boyfriend instead????

Meg is a ferocious girl, she has been through a lot. Her relationship with her parents is quite fragile, ever since the demise of her sister (who I absolutely adored), their family have never been the same really. She uses graffiti as her escape, she finds peace through it. I am sure Sydney would be proud of you Nutmeg.

This is dual pov which is a always a pleasure to read since you have the chance to get inside of the characters head and really know them inside and out. This was a relatively fast pace where you just could not stop for one moment to pause on the story. I read this in one sitting and it is what I believe got me out of my reading induce coma, I can't thank Chapter Blog tours enough.

I can't praise this book enough, it is more deserving than 5 stars!

ARC Review: The Arrangement

Title: The Arrangement
Author: Sonya Lalli
Published: 10th August 2017
My Rating: 5/5
Recommend: YES!
Synopsis:

You can't choose who you fall for...but it helps if there's a list

Raina, twenty-nine, is still unmarried much to the dismay of her family who think that by now she should have been married in a dream Indian wedding. The pressure to settle down reaches new heights when her grandmother, Nani, decides to play matchmaker in order to find her the perfect man.

Eager not to disappoint her family, Raina goes along with the plan but when the love of her life returns - ex-boyfriend Dev - she's forced to confront her true feelings and decide what she really wants.

Funny, feelgood and heart-warming, The Arrangement shines a light on being single in your twenties, societal and cultural expectation of women, and modern day arranged marriages. Perfect summer read for fans of Ayisha Malik's Sofia Khan is Not Obliged and Aziz Ansari's Master of None.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review, thank you to Orion Books

When I first heard about this book I was a little sceptical, I thought this would be one of those plots with a insta love kind of story. But I am so happy to be wrong. This book is so full of surprises you will be spitting out anything you eat/drink.

Where should my love for this begin and where should it end??

The characters are totally loveable, funny, you will be catching yourself saying O-M-G RAINA NO WAY!!!!! so many times you will lose count.

The plot I will admit is a little typical clichΓ©, you know parents or in this particular case a grandmother wanting to set her daughter for marriage which she thinks is best for her. I like that everyone had someone's best interest at heart yet the person who needs to know what makes them happy is YOU. Nobody can make that decision for you

Raina is a 30 year old Indian woman who works in the banking industry but yet is to find a suitable husband according to her Nani. Her mum who we come to know as Manavi comes and goes as she pleases so really her only role model is her Nani who she is extremely close with.

At this point in the story, I am intrigued to know what happened to her mom? Why does she end up like this? She had Raina when she was 16 and is quite fair for an Indian. We never get to know her father or about her Nana as he unfortunately passes away, we are not told when.

Nani has made it her life mission to get Raina married, with help of her best friend Shay and Auntie Sarla she comes up with several proposals for Raina to choose from, unfortunately for her Raina is too picky in her opinion; she always finds a fault. We are told that Raina's Nani has become very acceptive and broad minded of westernised culture since she came to live in Canada.

Shay's mum, Auntie Sarla is sooo annoying in this book, I suppose we all have this one person in every family who thinks very traditionally and has a problem when the status quo is challenged or changed. She always criticises Raina for every little thing, constantly comparing her to Shay sometimes in the book I really wanted to give her a slap.

Asher, although he does not have a long role in this book is a sweetheart, he is your typical traveller, adventurer and giving back to society kind of person. Plus he is hot which is always a plus ;)

The plot is what I loved most about this book, apart from Nani's antics there were many times in the book when the past would be told and I wanted to know more, for instance, Nani was hard with her upbringing on her daughter Manavi, we are shown times when Raina was born and she wanted to pick her daughter up but her mom was in my opinion was acting callous and always hard on her with endless lists of have you done this yet? She also has the same notion of wanting to get her kids married which is why they never come home, I can understand this. With someone always telling you get married or with the idea you need a partner and have kids to be a complete woman is really frustrating. Coming from an Asian family myself, it is really depressing to see parents be so harsh with their daughters to even suggest a woman's worth only comes from a man. I really hate this, it is self deprecating to your own self worth. I really sympathised with Raina on this one and struggled. But I don't agree with how Raina decides to get out of this situation, she ends up making more of a mess. It was nice to see a gay character introduced, it really showed how the norm can be broken with a little open mind.

Until next time guys! :)

Descended of Dragons #1

Title: Rare Form
Author: Jen Crane
Published: 6th January 2015
My Rating: 4/5
Recommend: Yes
Synopsis:

A Secret Past
Fiery redhead Stella Stonewall can’t decide between a margarita and a manhattan.
The rest of her life? Please. Stella has never really fit in, and her pretty world comes crashing down when she learns it was never her world at all.
Rowan Gresham is domineering, brooding, and as sexy as chocolate-dipped sin. When he transports Stella to the magical realm of her parents she recognizes her rightful place immediately. Gresham’s motivations are less clear.

A Scorching Chemistry
The enigmatic Gresham aids in Stella’s metamorphosis and their chemistry ignites, though a long-time girlfriend and a significant age difference stand in the way.

A Battle for the Rest of Her Life
Stella’s life fast-tracks to extraordinary when she enrolls at Radix Citadel for Supernatural Learning, an enchanted college whose students turn furry on the regular. As Stella learns to navigate the magical new world of Thayer she must also find her animal form, a task as elusive as her ancestry. Stella soon faces an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn to manipulate an animal form she never knew she possessed.

Received a copy in exchange for a fair review,

All you have to do is mention one word, dragons and I am sold!

This is a lot different to The Alchemist of Loom by Elise, but I am still glad I read it. Stella one day has a very unfortunate incident with her car and the next thing you know she is in the arms of tall, strong and handsome. Gresham.

Gresham introduces Stella to a whole new world, Thayer where all kind of magical creatures exist and live in harmony that is until Brandubh ruins their home years ago. After so many years of trying to restore peace and heal, the threat of Brandubh unveils itself again. How will the citizens of Thayer protect themselves?

Unknown to Stella, she is in for more than she bargained for when she enrols in Radix. She makes new friends; Timbra, Bex, Ewan, Layla and Boone. I must admit each of them were fascinating to learn and instantly to fall in love with. Timbra had to be my favourite she may be seem weak but she is anything like that. She is also a good friend to Stella when she first enrols and they instantly become bffs.

Hm..I see a possible love triangle?

Gresham is moody, intelligent, wise (he seems old to me) and not to mention incredibly handsome. He also has the tendency to disappear from time to time and a former flame is very jealous with his relationship with Stella. It does make you question if he is hiding something as he does try to avoid some of Stella's questions.

Stella is a fiery redhead with a heart of gold, she is loyal, brave and does not let anyone tell her what to do. Go Stella! She fits in the world of Thayer quite easily, feel like she is at home already.

This is the first time I have ever read some of the authors work, but I fell in love with the characters with ease, it didn't take long for the suspense to finally roll in and take the lead leaving you on the edge of your seat. And where it ends it leaves you wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book.

Waiting on Wednesday: Together at Midnight

"Waiting on" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: Together at Midnight
Author: Jennifer Castle
Series: N/A
Release Date: 2nd January 2018
Synopsis:

Combining the emotional deftness of Sarah Dessen with the magical spark of New York City in wintertime, this affecting novel will inspire readers to pay closer attention to the world around them.

What does it really mean to be kind . . . and why does it sometimes feel like the hardest thing in the world to do? High school senior Kendall, who just returned from a life-changing semester in Europe, and Max, who is drifting his way through a gap year before college, struggle with these questions when they witness a tragic accident in New York City during the holiday season. Racked with guilt, the two accept a dare to perform random acts of kindness to strangers. The challenge pulls these two teens, who have a history together from back home, closer and closer as they explore a vibrant city filled with other people’s stories and secrets.

Kendall and Max can’t deny their growing bond, even though they both have other romantic entanglements and uncertain futures. As the clock counts down on New Year’s Eve, will they find themselves together at midnight?

Jennifer Castle’s latest novel is a romantic, thought-provoking tale of human connection and how we find—and make—our place in the world.

I am very looking forward to this book, not sure what is it that makes me want to read it. But I just fell in love with the synopsis, it seems like a sweet romance story.

Thank you Epic reads!

A New York Love Story

Title: A New York Love Story
Author: Cassie Rocca
Published: 1st October 2016
My Rating: 4/5
Recommend: Yes
Synopsis:

Giving a present is not always easy. Clover O’Brian knows that only too well: her job consists of helping people in the arduous task of choosing unusual gifts. Christmas is coming, New York is buzzing, and Clover, who has always loved the festive period, savours the atmosphere.

Cade Harrison already has everything in life. A Hollywood actor, he is handsome, rich, famous and popular. Success, however, has its downsides; having just emerged from a disastrous relationship with an actress, he feels a need to hide away in an area unfrequented by stars, in an apartment lent him by a friend, far from prying eyes – especially those of tabloid reporters. But as chance will have it, the apartment in question is right opposite the one occupied by Clover, who until now has seen Hollywood actors only on the big screen. Two quite different lives meet by chance, at the most exhilarating time of year…

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review

Reading this during the festive period with the holidays approaching really made me get in to the book, I could feel the cold during late evenings, sitting on the bed in one position for hours, having coffee/ tea breaks. Whatever was being described in the book, in the alternate universe (so in real life) similar some stuff were happening to me (what a coincidence right? :D). It didn't snow in December (it never does just maybe on the rarest occasion!).

A sweet romance story between Cade and Clover, as the synopsis suggests they are two very different people from different worlds. But isn't that what makes the story so great?

Cade is a famous hollywood actor who is currently hiding from the media after a brief showdown with his ex, he just wants to escape from all of this, live a normal life for once. So what does he do? His friend lents his apartment to him as fate would have it, it's right opposite from Clover's house. They are neighbours!!!! Cade is the type of person I would look for in a boyfriend, he is sweet, tall, considerate, funny (humour goes a long way!) and not to mention handsome *gooey eyes*.

But no really he is sweet and considerate (so you have said already), on Clover's birthday he surprises her but inviting her close friends for a small get together and a birthday cake in the wee hours of the morning. Aren't gestures like this so cute? I love it when the guy impresses his girl with stuff like this.

Clover on the other hand, is like the icing on the cake. She is so helpful, sweet, plays with the local children, and really really funny. Because of her job as helping people choose what presents to buy for Christmas, Clover feels very lonely, she can't remember the last time someone had bought her a present on Christmas, she doesn't want to spend Christmas alone but then she doesn't want to burden her friends either when she tells them about her plans. Her relationship with her family isn't very good, she hardly ever sees her brother, her sister in law hates her so this year she decides to spend Christmas by herself. Cade's relationship with his family is very loving, his mother can be quite bossy in the most adorable way a mother can be, which is why he lies to his family. Unknowingly to both, they are exactly what they were looking for without searching for it.

I did really love Cade and Clover's relationship, it was just so HARD not to love their adorableness at trying to impress one another, Clover overthinking about everything that happens, Cade going to lengths trying to get Clover back and Clover's funny humour (especially when she mentions him signing fans butt *falls of the chair laughing*).

Movie Review: Beauty and the Beast

Movie Details:
Title: The Beauty and the Beast
Release Date: 17th March 2017
Cast: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Audra McDonald, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson
Rating: 4.5/5
Synopsis:

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Hi everyone, I know I have been off the radar a little bit, work is hectic for the summer and my manager has given me more hours since it is a busy period which means no time for reading!!! BUT I am back and hopefully with a bang that stays consistent!!!! I actually watched this movie in the cinemas many moons ago and I loved every minute of it!!!!!

This movie is one of the highest grossing film of 2017 and anyone who has watched this movie has no doubt as to why that is. With a stellar cast like Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Josh Gad who could ever doubt these stars? This epic tale resonated me with me a lot, I actually kind of forgot that Belle loves to read but what a way to be reminded and fall in love with this tale all over again?

Two things stood out for me in this movie; musical performance and visual style. Although in every Disney movie there is always some songs that are played within the movie, I never had any idea this would be the same with actual movie and that too with the actors singing themselves? WOAAAAHHHH!!!! I can't really criticise the musical performance of Emma Watson or Josh Gad since I am no music critic but to me they sounded alright, maybe they will never release an album but for the movie I think it fitted perfectly.  The attention to detail given in this movie is spot on, you can't help with falling in love with this movie. All of the scenes, the CGI was so real like it felt surreal. This is what I love about movies when the the whole production team can make scenes come to life which exactly what happened in this movie. My favourite scene in the movie would be have to be the castle especially when Belle first discovers is? OMG it gives you the creeps (not sure I would have the courage to go there).

The designs, colours and the lavish settings for the dance sequence is my favourite part in the whole movie, when I first saw it in the trailer I was absolutely hooked. How can you not fall in love with it? The design is simple nothing too complicated and they stuck with the outlook of Belle's appearance in the animated movie. I love is so much, secretly I wish the studio would send it to me, here is to wishful thinking.

Dan Stevens who have I never heard of before until now, does impeccable acting of the beast and I absolutely die hard love him now. I am just so amazed with how the creative team made him so beastly like and his acting was phenomenal. At one point I had even wondered if he would ever return to a human again, he made me forget that Disney movies always have a happy ending!

So that is from me this week, I am going to try my best to do stick with the weekly movie reviews.

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

Blog Tour: Blackwing -Raven's Mark #1 Has Not Ended

Title: Blackwing
Author: Ed McDonald
Published: 27th July 2017
My Rating: 5/5
Recommend: OMG YES!!!
Synopsis:

Set on the ragged edge of a postapocalyptic frontier, Blackwing is a gritty fantasy debut about a man’s desperate battle to survive his own dark destiny…

Nothing in the Misery lasts…

Under a cracked and wailing sky, the Misery is a vast and blighted expanse, created when the Engine, the most powerful weapon in the world, was unleashed against the immortal Deep Kings. Across the wasteland, teeming with corrupted magic and malevolent wraiths, the Deep Kings and their armies are still watching—and still waiting.

Ryhalt Galharrow is no stranger to the Misery. The bounty hunter journeys to a remote outpost, armed for killing both men and monsters, and searching for a mysterious noblewoman. He finds himself in the middle of a shocking attack by the Deep Kings, one that should not be possible. Only a fearsome show of power from the very woman he is seeking saves him.

Once, long ago, he knew the woman well, and together they stumble onto a web of conspiracy that threatens to unmake everything they hold dear and end the fragile peace the Engine has provided. Galharrow is not ready for the truth about the blood he’s spilled and the gods he’s supposed to serve…

OMG I KNEW THIS COVER WAS SO AWESOMELY AWESOME BUT I NEVER DREAMED TO READ SOMETHING DARK AND LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH!!!1 AND THE COVER?????WITH ALL ITS PURPLE SHININESS CONTRASTED WITH BLACK?????? 😍😍😍😍😍😍😨😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

The plot is very unique in this book, I actually didn't realise I was reading a apocalyptic dystopian novel until a few chapters in? How did that happen to me? I will tell you, I was so intrigued with the way the book started that I wanted to know more about the 'captain'.

Okay, so I think I got the gist of the plot, although there are still many questions that are unanswered for me, let me give you an example to the genius mind of the author. Take the example of the Bride they were killing 'brides' in the book and because there is this notion of marriages being so pure and getting married to your loved one we automatically assume they are innocent right? Wrong, Ed has created them to these monstrous creatures who lure people in their command and basically want them to have sex. The more people they have under their control the more their bodies swell up. Okay when I first read this the fact kind of creeped me out a little, but honestly putting all that aside I have never read anything so dark and amazing at the same time? RIGHT?!!!!

Ryhalt Galhardos, who is the captain of Blackwings (often referred to as captain) recruits, this legion or army belongs to Crowfoot. So there are two main armies, there is the Nameless (who I still don't quite understand) and then there is Deep Kings who are fighting this war which has been momentarily paused for a few years. There is this creative invention created by one of the Nameless, Nall 's Engine (created by Nall, no brainer right?), which defends the people against these Deep Kings. The race is on to find out what secrets are both side hiding? Is everyone as innocent as they claim? Only one way to find out.......

It is very rarely that I enjoy so many characters in a book, but I am happy to say there is more than one important character in this book that I loved. Everyone plays a part. My favourite are; Ezabeth, Nenn and Tnota. I have no idea how you pronounce any of these names but I found me liking them more and more as I read deeper in to the book. Nenn and Ezabeth are very strong characters, both who would take no crap from anyone, defy against all odds and incredibly loyal especially Nenn.

I really don't know where to begin and end with this book, I loved this book so much. I only have eternal gratitude for Gollancz for sending me a copy πŸ’–

P.S. Don't forget to check out the rest of the schedule

Witches of the Deep

Title: Witches of the Deep
Author: C.N. Crawford
Published: 13th June 2016
My Rating: 4/5
Recommend: Yes
Synopsis:

Fiona and her friends are on the run from the ruthless witch-hunters, seeking refuge in the werewolf city of Dogtown. But sadly for Fiona, no sanctuary awaits them there.

Plagued by its inhabitants and her own twisted past, Fiona is searching for one thing: a way out.

Her only hope is to complete a series of grueling tasks set forth by a gorgeous—but terrifying—sea-demon. If she can fight her way to survival, she’ll gain the chance to defeat the hunters. But if she fails, she faces an eternity of torment that makes her current predicament seem like a walk in the park.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review,

I am kind of sad this trilogy has come to an end, I guess I was subconsciously putting this off because I don't want this series to end. I loved Tobias and the gang! I was first gripped by this series simply by the cover, I thought it was so captivating. Even now just look at it (I think that is meant to be Fiona).

Things pick up exactly where they were left off in the second book, the gang leave Maremount and end up with the werewolves in Dogtown but things are not looking up for the gang, with the threat of Picaroons and Throcknell army looming above their heads they have nowhere else to go except compromise with Estelle. How will Tobias save himself from the hellhound and his friends?

This book was a lot more fast paced than the first two books, there is also a lot more new characters introduced which gives the story more depth and character. I am particularly fond of Lir now he was someone who constantly impressed me till the last page, I did think maybe he had feelings for Fiona along the way but I was wrong. I would have liked more scenes with him and maybe he could of had a few chapters too? I loved him just as much I loved Tobias, he is so rigid and on the borderline of impudent but that was not the case at all, there a lot of layers to him kind of like peeling an onion. I enjoyed learning more about him.

Fiona plays more of a strong character in this book, she really is motivated to save herself and her friends and she really comes through for them. Oswald playing the love interest for Celia is something I never expected but the more I read about him the more I fell in love with this audacity and curls! *sighs*

Great ending to the series!

Spotlight: Rarity From the Hollow

Hi guys, I decided this week would be a good opportunity to spotlight another indie author since that is how everything started for me, plus some of these books are really good and need to be READ. So please go and show this author some love for his book!

Keep scrolling for an exclusive chapter from the book...

Title: Rarity from the Hollow
Author: Robert Eggleton
Series: N/A
Release Date: 3rd November 2016
Synopsis:

Lacy Dawn's father relives the Gulf War, her mother's teeth are rotting out, and her best friend is murdered by the meanest daddy on Earth. Life in The Hollow isn't great. But Lacy has one advantage -- she's been befriended by a semi-organic, semi-robot who works with her to cure her parents. He wants something in exchange, though. It's up to her to save the Universe.

Will Lacy Dawn's predisposition, education, and magic be enough for her to save the Universe, Earth, and, most importantly, protect her own family?

Rarity from the Hollow is adult literary science fiction filled with tragedy, comedy and satire. It is a children's story for adults, not for the prudish, faint of heart, or easily offended.

PLEASE NOTE: this book may contain some sexual abuse

I really do love the cover of this book, and Lacy seems like such a strong character!

Excerpt from Chapter 13, Mom I’d Like to Introduce You to My FiancΓ©:

…..…Jenny (the mother) walked up the hill to Roundabend. She called Lacy Dawn's name every few yards. Her muddy tennis shoes slipped and slid.
I hear her voice. Why won't she answer me?
“Sounds like she’s talking to someone,” Jenny said to the Woods.
Nobody responded. The trees weren't supposed to since Jenny was no longer a child. Her former best friends had made no long-term commitment beyond childhood victimization. They had not agreed to help her deal with domestic violence in adulthood. She hugged the closest tree.
I will always love you guys.
Jenny quickened her pace, stopped, and listened for human voices. A few yards later, she stopped again.
Now it sounds like she’s behind me instead of in front.
Jenny looked to the left of the path.
There ain't no cave Roundabend, but there it is.
She walked toward the entrance. The voices grew louder and she looked inside. Lacy Dawn sat on a bright orange recliner. Tears streamed down her face.  Jenny ran to her daughter through a cave that didn't exit and into a blue light that did.
            “All right, you mother f**ker!”
“Mom!” Lacy Dawn yelled. “You didn’t say, ‘It’s me’ like you're supposed to (a traditional announcement mentioned earlier in the story)."
DotCom (the android) sat naked in a lotus position on the floor in front of the recliner.  Jenny covered Lacy Dawn with her body and glared at him.
"Grrrrr," emanated from Jenny.  It was a sound similar to the one that Brownie (Lacy Dawn's dog) made the entire time the food stamp woman was at their house.  It was a sound that filled the atmosphere with hate.  No one moved.  The spaceship’s door slid shut.
“Mommmmmy, I can’t breathe. Get up.”
“You make one move you sonofabitch and I’ll tear your heart out,” Jenny repositioned to take her weight off Lacy Dawn.
            Stay between them.
“Mommy, he’s my friend. More than my friend, we’re going to get married when I'm old enough -- like when I turn fourteen. He’s my boyfriend -- what you call it -- my fiancΓ©.”
“You been messin’ with my little girl you pervert!” Jenny readied to pounce.
“MOM!  Take a chill pill! He ain’t been messing with me. He’s a good person, or whatever. Anyway, he’s not a pervert. You need to just calm down and get off me.”
Jenny stood up. DotCom stood up. Jenny’s jaw dropped.
He ain't got no private parts, not even a little bump.
“DotCom, I’d like to introduce you to my mommy, Mrs. Jenny Hickman. Mommy, I’d like to introduce you to my fiancΓ©, DotCom.”
Jenny sat down on the recliner. Her face was less than a foot from DotCom’s crotch and she stared straight at it. It was smooth, hairless, and odor free.
“Mrs. Hickman, I apologize for any inconvenience that this misunderstanding has caused. It is very nice to meet you after having heard so much. You arrived earlier than expected. I did not have time to properly prepare and receive. Again, I apologize.”
I will need much more training if I'm ever assigned to a more formal setting than a cave, such as to the United Nations.
“Come on, Mommy. Give him a hug or something.”
            Jenny's left eye twitched.
DotCom put on clothing that Lacy Dawn had bought him at Goodwill. It hung a little loose until he modified his body. Lacy Dawn hugged her mother…
…(scene of Dwayne, the father, overheard by those in the spaceship while talking to himself)… “Besides, the transmitter was part of Daddy’s treatment. There're a lot of other things that he did to help fix Daddy. DotCom is like a doctor. You can see that Daddy has gotten better every day. And no, there ain’t no transmitter in you. DotCom figured you out like a good doctor and the only things wrong are a lack of opportunity and rotten teeth that poison your body. You don’t need no transmitter. He just gave you a few shots of ego boost. I don’t know what medicine that is, but I trust him. You ain't complained since the shots started -- not even with an upset stomach.”
            "He's a doctor?" Jenny asked.
“What's your problem anyway?” Lacy Dawn asked. “I know.  You’re prejudiced. You told me that people have much more in common than they do that's different -- even if someone is a different color or religion, or from a different state than us. You told me to try to become friends because sometimes that person may need a good friend. Now, here you are acting like a butt hole about my boyfriend. You’re prejudiced because he’s different than us.”
“Honey, he’s not even a person – that’s about as different as a boyfriend can get,” Jenny said.
            “So?”
Mommy's right. Maybe I need a different argument.
A fast clicking sound, a blur of motion, and a familiar smell assaulted them.
            "What's that?" Jenny asked.
She moved to protect her daughter from whatever threat loomed. Brownie, who had been granted 27 / 7 access to the ship, bounded over the orange recliner, knocked DotCom to the floor, licked DotCom’s face, and rubbed his head on Jenny’s leg. He then jumped onto the recliner and lay down. His tail wagged throughout. Jenny sat down on the recliner beside Brownie and looked at Lacy Dawn.
“But, you were crying when I first came in. That thing was hurting you.” Jenny shook her finger at DotCom to emphasize a different argument against him.
“Mommy, I'm so happy that I couldn’t help but cry. My man just came home from an out-of-state job. I didn't talk to him for a whole year. Before he left, he told me that he wasn’t even sure if he'd be able to come home. I still don’t know what happened while he was gone. We ain't had no chance to talk. All I know is that he's home and I'm sooooo happy.”
“Your man came home from an out-of-state job?” Jenny patted Brownie on his head, some more and some more….
It's unusual for a man to promise to come back home and ever be seen again. Brownie likes him and that's a good sign. Maybe she's right about him helping Dwayne. Something sure did and it wasn’t me. It is a nice living room. They've been together for a while and I ain't seen a mark on herThat's unusual too. He ain't got no private parts and that's another good thingHell, if I get in the middle, she’d just run off with him anyway. I'd better play it smart. I don't want to lose my baby.
“What about his stupid name?” Jenny asked.
“I’ve got a stupid name, too. All the kids at school call me hick because my last name is Hickman.”
“My name was given to me by my manager a very long time ago. It represents a respected tradition -- the persistent marketing of that which is not necessarily the most needed. I spam…,” DotCom said.
            They both glared at him.
"Dwayne is sure to be home. I don’t want him to worry. Let’s go,” Jenny said.
            “Okay, Mommy.”
“I love you, DotCom,” Lacy Dawn stepped out the ship’s door, which had slid open. Brownie and Jenny were right behind her.
“I love you too,” DotCom said.
Lacy Dawn and Jenny held hands and walked down the path toward home. The trees didn’t smile -- at least not so Jenny would notice. On the other hand, no living thing obstructed, intruded, or interfered with the rite.
Jenny sang to the Woods, “My little girl’s going to marry a doctor when she grows up, marry a doctor when she grows up, when she grows up.  My little girl’s going to marry a doctor when she grows up, marry a doctor when she grows up, when she grows up….”

Let's talk: I hope you enjoyed the feel of the this and give this book a chance. What do you guys think of Sci Fi linked with sexual abuse? I personally have never read those two genres mixed together
